Javed Miandad & Shahid Afridi - a match fixed

Who will fix the match-fixing in Pakistan Cricket?

Pakistan Cricket refuses to grow as in yet another development Javed Miandad was silenced by Pakistan Cricket's well-wishers. Hushed-up, and repeatedly condemned was the act of Pakistan's legend cricketers another failed attempt to clean Pakistan Cricket of match-fixing. Someone loudly demanded Javed Miandad to come up with the proof! As if we had punished ones caught red-handed? Imran Khan to Nawaz Sharif match-fixing remained a strong area of Cricketers from Lahore and the tussle with Karachi had in the past seen the likes of Qasim Umar and Rashid Latif lamenting Lahore-walas soaked in corruption.

At one end is Shahid Afridi who had earlier brought Pakistan Shame over his ball-eating affair and he is pitched against PAkistan lonely voice against MAtch-fixing. Remember Imran Khan has never issued his view point to condemn match-fixers.

Pakistan's False Promise

Baluchistan in mourn and Abdul Sattar Edhi no more with us to offer consolation to the bereaved families, Pakistan’s bunch of tainted cricketers successfully defeated their erstwhile masters at the Oval, London. Yet Pakistan’s disenchanted youth has reasons to rejoice a day of freedom.

In the capital Islamabad and adjoining Rawalpindi, the day began with forced closure of cellular communication prior to the National flag hoisting ceremonies.

14th of August has seldom been a day to celebrate, it is about venting the expressions of youth, it is about recalling the nostalgic events with pride that otherwise had remained stigma in the country’s checkered past. Pakistan's political affairs suggest over the year, the day had been used for misadventures to pursue so-called national interests by successive dictators.

Parts of the country are still ruled by the laws coined for the British RAJ. In Pakistan’s tribal areas people are subject to the laws where fair trial remains a dream.

Disenchanted yet exuberant Pakistan’s youth had reasons to celebrate, they are free for one day 14 August – they are not celebrating Independence, its freedom to move on the roads without being targeted by the mindset, which had denied them sports, music and all other aesthetics to express.

The youth is celebrating in a wayward manner, one wheeling; they are on the roads chanting, listening to the music that otherwise may not be as convenient to follow on weekends. Miles away, Pakistan’s cricketers had defeated the erstwhile masters - England at the Oval London, Younis Khan brings more reasons to smile. Besides Pakistan’s other heroes are tainted, Yasir Shah was accused of using steroids in the past and Amir had a dubious distinction to find a place in the side that he had brought shame on the last tour.

Pakistan’s Balochistan province mourned the day which media refused to report. Reflections of the day remained somber there had been little reasons to join the rest of the country. Days back a vendor was shot dead in Quetta for selling Pakistan’s flag, scores lost their lives in another tragic incidents. in the provincial capital of Quetta. In Rawalpindi Pakistan’s information minister accused Imran Khan for raising a Black Flag on a national day.

Only few days ago Pakistan had also Buried with National Honours a philanthropist who failed to inspire a single person to follow in his steps from 200 million strong crowd. Abdul Sattar Edhi was unable to promote harmony in the communities despite his life-long struggle.

In other parts of the country, the youth forgets unemployment and the opportunities denied, their potential, unharnessed is not a threat but a hope for the progressive minds, washing away the silts of remains from a harrowing past offer the likelihood of a fertile land reap benefits from a Bonsai democracy.

Cricket at the mercy of Big Data?

Obituary: An OH for the icons of Cricket

If one is to go by Artificial Intelligence - today's buzword, the greatest cricketer of even the recent past will be dumped for ever. May be some of the all time greats, hitherto, find a bit more or a byte few, on the server where Sachin Tendulkar is still getting  the clicks!

We are living in the age of AI and at the same time we are surviving Pakistan. When mullah mansoor got the controvercial shot, we realized how our DATA base got compromised. Well is it a strength or a weakness? We know our big data is held by Mark Zukerberg , the neo imperialist who is unwittingly threatening all but US elections .
The concept of Artificial Intelligence is relatively lesser known in Pakistan except professional. The main reason of course is that our public offices have refused to grow with time and the concept of e governance remains nothing but an utter failure.
No one would better be placed to have understanding of the manipulation of data than a cricket statistician. When Indian Cricket team visited Pakistan in 1978-79, the matches were merely a statistician’s galore. The following season, when Pakistan visited India the results reversed. Pakistan’s ace bowler Imran Khan and the star batsman Zaheer Abbas struggled with their fitness on the field.

Analysts of the game of cricket seldom draw comparisons of two players from different eras. Yet there have been scores of books written on the subject and these books drew the attention of the sports lovers too.
How  can I declare Don Bradman (Commonly known as the great Sir DON) the greatest ever batsman when he scored all his runs against spinners and in the age,  less competitive as it had been in the recent past. The only time Don Bradman faced a speedster (Larwood),  he had to eat a humble pie by his own standards.
Why Tendulker became darling of the world cricket is not by virtue of his skills but for his privilege to have lived in the times of Fans pages. Even if he would not click on the field, he got the clicks.
Shall we name artificial intelligence an average intelligence? May be so because when Shahid Afridi hit lofty drives, he get runs, he get applause how much technically wrong he may have been!
And when Misbah score a ton, technically sound on the field yet he continues to irritate spectators who want to see runs being scored at accelerated rates.
May be we need that, let the technique go awry and the big data continue to remain numeric after all we are here to enjoy the game.
